Pain Hustlers

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

David Yates takes a diversion from directing fantastic beasts and Harry Potters with Pain Hustlers. Emily Blunt is a desperate single mum who, after meeting Chris Evans’s pharmaceutical salesman, finds herself in an ethically dodgy job. But will her morals prevail? This time drama looks at the US opioid epidemic from a slightly different angle.

Talk To Me

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This one’s a big win for Netflix’s 2023 Halloween season. Talk to Me is one of the year’s very best horror movies, a taut and tense flick in which a bunch of teenagers use a ceramic hand to convene with the dead. The premise sounds like b-movie nonsense but the execution is next-level. This is the first movie from the Philippou brothers, who run the RackaRacka YouTube channel.

What We Do In The Shadows season 5

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The fifth season of What We Do in the Shadows has arrived on Disney Plus. Nandor thinks Guillermo is slipping away from him, and has to figure out why. We're not here for the story, though, but to spend more time with this always-charming ensemble cast. There are 10 episodes in this season and, good news, season 6 is already in the works.

Milli Vanilli

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The tale of Milli Vanilli is one for the ages. A celebrated pop group is revealed to be a fraud. Not only did the singers mime when performing, they didn’t even sing on the original record. This documentary takes a more nuanced approach to what was a joke for decades, digging into the trauma as well as the brighter memories of the 80s. This doc features interviews with the one remaining member of the band, and other key figures from the time.

Werewolf By Night In Color

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Werewolf By Night is one of the best bits of Marvel content on Disney Plus. It’s the story of a lycanthrope superhero played by Gael Garcia Bernal, and is over and done in just over 50 minutes. It came out in 2022 but, just for Halloween 2023, has been re-released in colour. The original was black and white. We’d advise seeing the OG first, but real thought has been put into what the colour version should look like.

American Horror Stories season 3

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

American Horror Stories is the sister show to the brilliant American Horror Story. Each episode is its own horror tale rather than spinning out a storyline across a whole season. Season 3 is called Huluween in the US, making it more of a special run of eps than a classic season. We get four episodes, some of which are among the best seen in this show to date. Those in the UK will be able to stream the show from Novermber 29 on Disney Plus.

When Evil Lurks

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

On Halloween weekend we can’t go without a mention of horror streamer Shudder. It has just put out an original movie, When Evil Lurks. This is a possession-themed horror where the act itself seems more like a disease or infection than a classic demonic possession. It’s a Spanish language movie that sits at a sensational 99% over at Rotten Tomatoes.

We have spent A LONG time watching things on all these streaming services. So, if you want more of an in-depth look at the shows and movies you can stream the please head to the following guides.

Previously on the WatchList...

Old Dads

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Famous comedian Bill Burr makes his directorial debut with Old Dads, a film he both wrote and stars in. We’ll be honest, this one is picking up pretty terrible reviews. But fans of Burr (of which there are a great many) will probably still want to check it out. Just as the title suggests, it’s about being an older dad and struggling with a world that has moved on.

Bodies

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Here’s a crime show with a difference. There’s a murder, but it happens across four time periods. The same body turns up in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053. We follow the four investigations, while Stephen Graham’s Mannix is the key to linking the four cases through time. It’s compulsive viewing, providing the best bits of a compelling crime drama with a genuinely interesting twist.

The Devil On Trial

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Netflix’s cover image for The Devil on Trial makes it look like a jump-scare horror movie, but this is a documentary. It examines the real-life story that inspired the Conjuring films. Demonic possession was used as a defence in a murder case in the US. The act itself happened in 1981, a multiple stabbing by 19-year-old Arne Cheyenne. But what really happened?

The Burning Girls

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This six-part horror TV show is based on a best-selling novel by C. J. Tudor. Samantha Morton stars as Jack Brooks, a reverend who moves to a village in Sussex with her daughter. But this is a place with a dark past Brooks begins to uncover. It’s picking up a lot of three-star reviews, but they’re generally very positive three-star reviews. The Telegraph calls the show “The Vicar of Dibley meeting The Wicker Man” and we’re down for that.

The Pigeon Tunnel

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

John Le Carré was one of the greatest spy novelists of all time, and also happened to work in MI5 and MI6 during the early 1960s. The Pigeon Tunnel is a documentary about the man, and is primarily an interview between him and director Errol Morris, held just before his death in 2020. It looks into how his real life influenced his work, and is a must-watch for fans of the writer. You may be one without even realising it: Le Carré wrote The Night Manager, The Constant Gardener, Our Kind Of Traitor and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, among other novels, all made into successful TV shows or films

On the big screen

Killers Of The Flower Moon

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Martin Scorsese is back with his first full motion picture since 2019’s The Irishman. Killers of the Flower moon is a 5-star smash and, in classic Scorsese fashion, something of an epic at a few minutes under three-and-a-half hours. It’s about a series of murders that took place in the 1920s in the US. Members of the Osage tribe are killed in Oklahoma after oil is discovered on their land. Stirring stuff, starring Scorsese favourite Leonardo DiCaprio.

  • Out now in cinemas and will stream on Apple TV+ at a later date

The Fall Of The House Of Usher

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Mike Flanagan is back with another slice of characterful horror in TV series The Fall of the House of Usher. It’s part of the lineage that includes The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass. This time we’re looking at a very loose adaptation of an Edgar Allen Poe short story. A dodgy CEO’s family starts dying one by one. But why? 8 episodes. A 90% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Hop to it.

Big Vape: The Rise And Fall Of Juul

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This documentary adaptation of a book looks into the rapid rise and fall of Juul, once the slickest name in vaping. The brand got in hot water for marketing its unusual vaping product to a too-young audience. But the story here is more interesting than that of other vaping brands, as Juul’s technology is a bit different. A four-part series.

The Greatest Show Never Made

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Remember the golden era of reality TV? The Greatest Show Never Made takes you back to those days, with a real thriller of a documentary. 30 contestants are duped into participating in a reality TV show back in the early 2000s. But the TV show was never real in the first place. Made with great production values, and features interviews from key players in this wild, true story.

Frasier

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Rebooting a cherished sitcom that has been off screens for almost 20 years sounds like a horrible idea. Was it? Reviews are split. The Guardian says Frasier is “a joy to watch.” USA Today calls it an “embarrassingly bad revival.” Which side will you come down on? There’s only one way to find out. If you’ve stayed away from the pre-release hype, here’s one weird titbit: the features stars Nicholas Lyndhurst of Only Fools and Horses fame.

Slotherhouse

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

October means it’s time for horror and, well, this one has a pretty catchy premise. This slasher’s monster is none other than a sloth, known for being cute, slow and usually pretty harmless. Slotherhouse is a 90-minute horror comedy that leans hard into its central gag. It may not be a masterpiece, but is leagues above the trashy low budget horrors that rely on little more than a catchy concept and VHS-style cover image. The balance of comedy and horror really works here.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Can this prequel to a Stephen King classic continue the trend established by the 2019 Pet Sematary by being a pretty decent film? Not according to the critics. Keep your expectations modest for this horror flick. But it is the season, and among the cast are Henry Thomas, Pam Grier and David Duchovny.

On the Big Screen: Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Some might turn their noses up at how multiplexes are being absolutely dominated by Taylor Swift for The Eras Tour’s opening weekend. But you can’t deny this concert film is an epic. It’s almost three hours long, and despite only being in her early-mid 30s, Swift really does have “eras” to her career, over its 10 original albums. It’s a lavish representation of the Swift concert experience and, well, a whole lot cheaper than buying a ticket to her actual live show. Sheesh, have you seen those prices?

Everything Now

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This modern teen drama packs a punch. Mia has an eating disorder that is consuming her life, and after getting back from treatment she finds she has missed an important part of her adolescence. Her making up for lost time means a cocktail of parties, sex, drugs, anxiety, all amid a recovery from anorexia. Sophie Wilde stars as Mia and, in a refreshing change, Everything Now features no superheroes and is not based on a comic book.

Bargain

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This brilliant South Korean show has been hailed by some as the natural successor to Squid Game. It hasn’t got that show’s hype, but is right up there in terms of quality. An earthquake hits the country, and organ traffickers (and their victims) are trapped in a building. We’re looking at multiple levels of grimness in Bargain, but it’s still ripe for a binge watch. It’s a 6-episode season, and each is a tight 35 minutes. Don’t consider whether you’re up for subtitles or not, just stick the first episode on, stat.

Beckham

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This 4-part series looks into the life and career of David Beckham. It’s a reminder that while he has often been thought of as a good-looking, talented and perhaps a bit dull footballer, his life has been packed with a fair bit of drama. Given he has been subject to a good amount of criticism in recent years, it’s refreshing to see Beckham isn’t a pure puff piece. Stars like Cantona and Rio Ferdinand pop up as talking heads, but this isn’t just one for the football fans.

Loki Season 2

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

One of the most beloved Marvel shows has finally returned for second season, after a two-year gap. Even though we only have one episode to watch at launch, critics who have seen the first four episodes agree it pretty much cements Loki as a candidate for a best of all the Marvel series gong. The characteristic humour, mischief and sense of adventure are here, even if a true sense of narrative dynamism kinda isn’t. But, hey, it’s still Marvel, what do you expect?

The Boogeyman

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Rob Savage, director of the greatest lockdown era horror movie, Host, is back with his third feature The Boogeyman. A young girl and her brother are grieving the death of their father, and find themselves stalked by a malevolent presence. It’s based on a short story of the same name by the master of modern horror Stephen King, one of the stories in the Night Shift collection. It’s October: time for some horror.

The Haunted Mansion

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

If you’re up for a bit of horror but also have some younger ones to consider, The Haunted Mansion is your pick for this week. Ring some bells? This is a remake of an Eddie Murphy film of the same name made 20 years ago. While we lose Murphy, we gain Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tiffany Haddish and lead LaKeith Stanfield. The initial inspiration is a Disney theme park ride, though,

Ghosts season 5

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

After five seasons the much-loved Ghosts is coming to an end. Not seen it yet? Ghosts is a haunted house show, but one where the main characters are predominantly the ghosts, not the living folks, well, living in the house. This is a rare case of a show coming to an end because the creators decided to do so, rather than getting canned by the studio. This is the UK version. The US version's third season is still in the works.

Gen V

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The superhero world of The Boys expands with Gen V. This series focuses on students at Godolkin University, which raises the next generation of superheroes in the desired image of mega corp Vought International. It’s a raunchy, anxiety-packed teen version of what we get in The Boys, and is absolutely worth a watch for fans of that series. Just three episodes are available to stream on day one, September 29. The additional five will drop one a week until November.

The Creator

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Few films feel as made to be seen on the big screen as The Creator, a sci-fi epic from Rogue One and Monsters director Gareth Edwards. It blends grand sci-fi visuals with the theme making so many of us anxious these days: AI. Some critics suggest it ultimately lacks a bit of substance, but when was the last time we got to see a grand sci-fi world that wasn’t based on an existing series? We’re well up for what The Creator is serving.

Reptile

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Benicio Del Toro is a detective on a murder case. A young estate agent has been killed. The mystery deepens, and brings up dark times from the detective’s own past. This one has received mixed reviews from the critics, but has a strong audience score over at Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. The cast is also packed with famous faces, including Alicia Silverstone, Justin Timberlake and Michael Pitt.

Who Killed Jill Dando?

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

British TV presenter Jill Dando was murdered in 1999, shot in the head and found shortly after her death by a neighbour. But her murder has never been solved. This Netflix documentary looks into the case, its background, and how the man initially charged with her murder was found to have been erroneously imprisoned. He is also interviewed in the series.

Encounters

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Not to be confused with 2021 Riz Ahmed film Encounter, Encounters is a new documentary series that talks to those who claim to have had extraterrestrial experiences. Spaceships, aliens and explained lights in the sky. We hear about encounters with them all, from across the globe. It’s a four-party series, and we think fans of this stuff are going to lap it up.

Stream now on Netflix

Castlevania: Nocturne

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Netflix surprised many of us by making a genuinely good anime adaptation of video game series Castlevania in 2017. Castlevania: Nocturne is a spin-off, or sequel, to that show, set 300 years later at the time of the French Revolution. Edward Bluebell voices Richter Belmont, vampire hunter and leader of an ensemble of . For fans of the games, you might consider Nocturne an adaptation of 1993’s Castlevania Rondo of Blood.

No One Will Save You

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

What’s better than a film with thrills? An efficient film with thrills. No One Will Save You is a sci-fi home invasion movie that packs in otherworldly alien tropes, and even a spot of Home Alone antics, into just 90 minutes. It’s also just a PG-13, so you won’t necessarily have to wait until the kids have gone to bed to stick it on. Or your gore-phobic housemate.

Sex Education Season 4

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The fourth and final season of Sex Education has come to Netflix. It’s a victory lap for those who have been here ever since the show started in 2019, but that’s not to say everything stays the same in this last 10-pack of episodes. With Maeve pushed to the other side of the world, Otis takes centre stage even more in this season, while the storylines show no sign of gracefully tying things up, to make things easy. The accelerator pedal is down, and we’d have it no other way.

Evil Dead Rise (UK only)

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This may sound unlikely, but Evil Dead Rise is probably the nastiest movie in this entire series. We’re talking extreme gore, which often stems from real wince-inducing horror rather than the near-slapstick comedy some of the Evil Dead movies lean into. It’s genuinely kinda disgusting, and perhaps that is exactly what an Evil Dead movie should be. This is way more Evil Dead 1 than Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness. As ever, evil spirits are woken up by some silly sausage reading from the Necronomicon. Will they never learn?

Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal season 2

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Alex Murdaugh is accused of killing his wife and son in Southern Carolina, US. And no, murder/Murdaugh isn’t the work of a lazy screenwriter, this is a Netflix documentary about a real case. The murders took place just a couple of years ago in 2021. This second season of Murdagh Murders takes place in the court room. If you follow the news you already know how this now played out, but the show’s depiction of lies coming to light makes for a fascinating watch.

Neighbours

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Remember the story of the final episode of Neighbours in the summer of 2022? Kylie returned and everything. Well, the classic Australian soap has returned, this time on Amazon. All the old favourites are here too, from Toadie to the Kennedys and Harold Bishop. It’s like putting on a comfortable slipper. Four episodes a week, all streaming for free on Amazon’s Freevee service. We imagine this one might have a few more people exploring exactly what is available on Freevee, which might be the whole idea.

Cassandro

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

A wrestler in Texas finds himself forever cast as the “nobody” runt until he embraces his sexuality in his work and casts himself as an “exotico.” He becomes the flamboyant Cassandro, the Liberache of Lucia Libre. The lead is played by none other than Gael García Bernal. In classic biopic fashion, Cassandro also plucks its emotional core from the character’s fractured past. And it’s a character based on a real-life figure.

The Continental: From the World of John Wick

John Wick spin-off series The Continental has arrived on Prime Video. The three-part prequel, the series is set to give fans of the John Wick universe a fresh glimpse into the hotel catering to assassins. A key point of reference in subsequent instalments, this thrilling tale takes place in 1970s New York through the eyes of a young Winston Scott. It’s dark, gritty and more mysterious than ever before.

Colin Woodell and Ayomide Adegun play the younger versions of Ian McShane’s Winston, and the late Lance Reddick's Charon admirably.

    El Conde

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

A black comedy featuring Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet as a vampire may not be everyone's cup of tea but thanks to the deft touch of director Pablo Larraín this is a bizarre must watch. While there are sly laughs throughout, there's an underlying current of political satire to the whole thing which stays with you.

    Wrestlers

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This 7-part series continues Netflix's trend of sports docs that pack a punch. This one focuses on the professionals that take part in Ohio Valley Wrestling. It's a far cry from the glitz and glamor that we normally see, with the both the mind and body taking a hammering on frequent occassions.

    Wilderness

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This taut thriller makes some questionable twists and turns along the way but it is a decent watch. Liv (Jenna Coleman) is a writer whose relationship is falling apart, after she finds her partner having an affair. They go on a dream holiday and, well, things start to unravel.

    Elemental

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Disney were bracing for another flop with Elemental as the initial signs at the box office wasn't great. It slowly but surely took over the box office, though. And for good reason, this is one of Pixar's better efforts, about a relationship that happens in a city where fire, water, land, and air residents live together.

    Welcome To Wrexham: S2

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The second season of Welcome To Wrexham is something of a fairy tale for both the team and its celebrity owners. What Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have done to turn the club's fortunes around it remarkable. But the really beauty here is that they seem to be completely invested emotionally, as well as financially.

    The Morning Show: S3

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The tentpole Apple TV Plus show is back and the in-fighting and drama between the newsreaders has never been so rife. Yes, it's melodramatic but Jennifer Anniston and Reece Witherspoon are a fantastic watch as always. And this season has the bonus of John Hamm.

    Previously on What To Watch

    Top Boy Season 5

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The final season of London crime drama Top Boy has gathered rave reviews, and is being cited as one of the rare examples of a show that is 100% quality and doesn’t a moment of time. Season five (season three to some) tells the conclusion of the epic tale of two drug dealers, Dushane and Sully, as everything they have built looks set to crumble. Why is it either season three or five? Top Boy began way back in 2011, and was resurrected for a third (fourth and fifth) season by Netflix in 2019, with the backing of super-fan Drake.

    The Little Mermaid

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Disney’s big movie of the summer, The Little Mermaid, has arrived on Disney Plus. This is the live action (and CGI) remake of the classic animation. It doesn’t blow the original out of the water, not even close, but if you have a Disney Plus sub and, ideally, some kids, this one should absolutely go on your to-watch pile. There was a lot of chat about how this movie bombed at the box office, but it has gone on to make around $570 million. That’s likely barely breaking even, and it’s also a lot of backsides on cinema seats.

    Dear Child

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

A missing person case is reopened when a 12-year-old and 8-year-old escape after being held captive, hidden away from the world, in Netflix's Dear Child. This affecting, harrowing and intense thriller show is based on a 2019 novel by Romy Hausmann. But it’s easy to make links to similar real-world cases with this one. This is a German show, but don’t let that put you off. It’s a compelling watch, if your nerves are up for it. It is also just six episodes long. No time-wasting involved.

    6ixtynin9

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The original 6ixtynin9 is a Thai dark thriller-comedy movie from 1999. In all likelihood you haven’t seen it, but it was a cracker. Netflix has now remade the movie as a mini-series, one with six episodes. A woman loses her job, but then finds a box of cash outside her home. This money was, of course, not meant for her, and begins a pitch black but comic mystery that goes to some thrilling, and violent, places.

Scout's Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Ready for a grim but fascinating watch? Scout’s Honor is a new Netflix documentary that digs into sexual abuse and its repeated cover-ups in the Boy Scouts of America. It’s a tale that covers decades of sordid grime, and features interviews with former scouts, officials and investigative journalists. Directed by documentary veteran Brian Knappenberger.

    The Killing Kind

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

A lawyer defends a murder suspect only for him to reappear in her life, after he became her stalker. But this time, he warns her she is in danger. It’s a question of who the real danger is in The Killing Kind, an adaptation of a 2021 novel by Jane Casey. Yep, it didn’t take long for this one to get made into a show. It stars relative newcomer Emma Appleton as lawyer Ingrid Lewis, and Colin Morgan, who many may recognise as Merlin from the TV adaptation way back in 2008.

    Justified: City Primeval

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

This return of beloved TV series Justified started streaming back in July on FX in the US. But now the entire run has dropped on Disney Plus in the UK. Raylan Givens returns to our screens once again after a break of almost 10 years. It’s not some half-hearted return thanks to the series’s source material. Justified is based on Elmore Leonard’s Fire in the Hole novel, and this new series is based on — you guessed it — City Primeval, a novel from 1980.

    Scream VI

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

The Scream series was successfully brought back to life with 2022’s reboot. 2023’s Scream VI received mixed reviews, but in the best sense, attracting both 2-star and 4-star write-ups just from the Guardian. Courtney Cox returns as Gale Weathers, while Jenny Ortega and Hayden Panettiere also return, from different previous Scream instalments. Will you find it a blast or too derivative to enjoy? There’s only one way to find out.

    Happy Ending

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

Prepare for laughs aplenty as Netflix unleashes its ultimate Dutch comedy. A feature-length escapade, this chortle-worthy watch follows Luna (Gaite Jansen) and Mink (Martijn Lakemeier) - a couple celebrating their one-year anniversary. It all sounds pretty perfect, right? That is until Mink discovers that Luna has been keeping a dark secret dating back to the start of their relationship - she’s been faking it in the bedroom. Cue a wave of misguided advice and the couple’s new plan to try out a threesome. Enter climate activist Eve (Joy Delima), who turns Luna's life upside down, leaving Mink with more questions than answers.

    A Day and a Half

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

We’re sticking with the international theme, as feature-length Swedish action drama A Day and a Half arrives on Netflix. A premise that sees Artan (Alexej Manvelov) take drastic measures to reunite with his daughter, he decides that holding his ex-wife Louise (Alma Pöysti) hostage is the only way. With Fares Fares (Westworld, Chernobyl, Star Wars) starring as police officer Lukas, the thrilling road trip journeys through rural Sweden with the authorities in pursuit. The directorial debut from Fares, this decidedly dark thriller is a Swedish Netflix Original, brimming with perilous twists and turns.

    Takeshi's Castle

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

It’s time for the heroic return of Takeshi and his almighty nostalgia-inducing fortress. True 90s nostalgia, this reboot of our favourite (yet utterly bizarre) Japanese game show sees each episode packed with more laughs than you could ever imagine courtesy of commentators Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis. With the victors set to win 1 million yen (around £5,500), it’s really only the contestant’s dignity that’s on the line. Expect one-liners, plenty of humiliation and a sprinkling of - as the presenting duo explained during our chat ahead of the launch.

    One Piece

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

It’s time for a live-action animation to spice things up, as Japanese anime series One Piece prepares to make its small screen debut. An adaptation that’s received a round of applause from critics, the series follows a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffya and his delightful gang of oddballs. Following the group on their epic voyage in search of mythical treasure - known as the One Piece - the tale mirrors creator Eiichiro Oda's original storylines. This eight episode series is, without a doubt, set to be a cult classic among manga fans.

    Spellbound

What to watch: new movies and TV shows to stream this week

If you’re after a touch of sparkle in your life, try Hulu’s Spellbound out for size. The tale of Cece Parker Jones (Hailey Romain), this magical journey follows the promising ballet star as she discovers her magical powers as a real witch. If you have ever wanted to see Jeremy Corbyn mutter the iconic line: "allow it, Wasteman,” or Ed Sheeran cameo as a drug-addled bad guy, well now you can thanks to Adam Deacon's Sumotherhood. Deacon brought us the fun Anuvahood back in 2011 and this film is a spiritual follow-up that'll be out on the big screen 13 October.

Sometimes, just sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction. The remarkable real-life tale of a CEO-turned-fugitive, Carlos Ghosn, is no exception. Unleashing this fascinating documentary on the ex-car industry chief (now subject to an international arrest warrant), financial inconsistencies saw him imprisoned in Japan for 10 days in 2019. A calculated getaway that gripped the world, the former Nissan-Renault CEO still remains at large. A must watch for fans of crime dramas and investigative tales, Apple TV Plus has absolutely nailed this one.

A treat fit for all the family, this hearty dose of Brooklyn Jewishness is just what the doctor ordered.
